Ammonite from space
Outsized ammonite? None of this: it is instead a clear circular structure visible from space in the Sahara desert of Mauritania. It has attracted the attention of the astronauts from the early space missions, becoming a sort of landmark in the area for the rest completely flat.
Initially it was assumed that this structure was the result of the impact of a meteorite on Earth today, the most likely hypothesis is that it is simply a result of the erosion formation particularly symmetric, where the Paleozoic quartzite form the underlying layers.
This image was captured by NASA's Terra satellite.
