The octopus that sails the seas
The Argonauta argo is a cephalopod mollusc closely related to the octopus that has a peculiarity: Females secrete fact, through the tentacles modified disk-shaped, a beautiful and delicate shell that houses numerous eggs laid, so also called ootheca.
When the sea is calm, the Argonauta back the surface to get carried by the wind, using the modified tentacles as a sort of sails, and making them vaguely resemble small galleons.
The ancient Greeks and Romans knew very well these creatures, for the navigators of cross un'argonauta at sea was considered a good omen, because it ensured a safe journey.
