News about the
World Wide Malacological Catalog
We have used the ponderous work of Millard, that you can find on the web site of the Italian Society of Malacologia for the classification.     http://www.aicon.com/sim/
We have had to simplify it for technical reasons and not for classification reasons. We would like you to remember we are not taxonomists but we are just simply passionate about shells. Please forgive us if there are any errors, and we are sure there may be many ; our mission is only to offer you an easy tool to manage the photos of your shells.
We have picked up names of shells in many internet sites and in many books.
After a first review of information we have compared all the various sources of data trying to eliminate the duplicates and maintaining where possible all the original information.
We have started then to insert the "sinonim". We think we managed to collect, nearly all available information for the Mediterranean and for Europe. We are instead incomplete regarding the rest of the world. We have continued therefore the work on single families. There is still so much work to do but we hope you will help us and give us suggestions. Our challenge is to have a second –updated - version by the second half of the year (2005).
If you will write to us we will keep an emailing list, and send you news, but we please ask you to periodically visit this site to pick up directly any updates.
